Hi. I'm going to be building my first computer soon and need ideas. I want to spend about $500 on the system including OS. I have monitor, keyboard etc. I mainly use my computer for downloading music and web browsing. My wife may be using it for online courses for her college. That about it. The only games that I would play is sim city. I want to run windows just because I have no experience with linux. Thats about it, if I forgot something let me know. Thanks in advance.

Well, with that budget you could get either get a low-end intel, or a mid-range amd, so i amd going to give you some amd system ideas...

So in this case the intel system is cheaper, but the AMD system stock is a little better overall, but if you overclock the e5200 then it will be a little better than the amd system, but that will require an aftermarket cooler for the cpu.

So, what is the difference between OEM OS and retail OS or am i missing something? The retail is more expensive so I was wondering why? Also if I was to go with the amd setup and later wanted to go intel would it be as simple as a mobo and cpu swap or do I need new memory and a new gpu also? Thanks.

^The OEMis just the Disk, The retail has all the papers and instructions ect. OEM is fine, just pop the DVD in and install.

OEM means you usually have to buy a computer with it but I have heard that you can buy just a single computer part and they will sell it to you.
