hi
another stupid question as this is my first build, i have this cpu cooler
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...57&subcat=1395
i have mounted the cooler on the cpu as instructed but in step 6 it tells me to connect the fan with the fan controller which is included. then step 7 tells me to install the fan controller to the pci slot with the can controller mounting screw.
the fan already has a wire which i plug into the cpu fan socket, where else can i connect the fan controller on the fan. thanks for your patience

build my own computer

hi
my second dumb question is this, should the fan be facing down the motherboard because at the moment it is fairly close to the side of the case where there is a built in fan. if its the wrong way round i will have to remove the thermal grease. thanks

That link doesn't point to a cpu cooler.

If you're not using a fan controller, then you'd
plug the fan straight into the board.

Also, the cpu cooler fan should point, or blow
towards the back of your case.

hi
this is the fan i am using
Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM3/LGA775)
the case is a antec 300 it has a fan at the rear blowing air out and a fan on top of the case also blowing air out, the fan can only point up or down. before i turned it round the cpu fan was about one inch from the fan on top of the case, not a lot of room. now the fan is pointing down the motherboard. hope you understand this. thanks

hi bodaggit23
going back to my first post here plugging the wire from the fan into the motherboard is ok, and the fan controller is just another option.

thanks for your advice, the fan is a bit of a beast to get off and i always worry about damaging the motherboard i would mean taking the whole thing off cleaning the thermal grease and replacing it, sorry if this seem a bit stupid but I'm a complete newbie here but is that fan blowing, for some reason i thought it was sucking air in, like i said it seems like a dumb question but I'm learning as i go along. where the fan was before it was an inch away from the fan on top of the case, there seemed there wasn't enough room.

hi
this is my fan as it is now, sorry about the picture i will try and get a better one later

You want the fan on the cooler blowing the hot air out.

Do you have the mount on 90 degrees off or something?

I can't believe they would make you put it like that. What
if your case didn't have top exhaust?

Anyway, if I were you, I would just flip the fan over so it's
blowing up and out. Seems like the easiest solution.

At most, I would look at the directions again and see if it's
possible that the mount could be turned 90 degrees from
what it's supposed to be, and I would dismount my board,
fix the mount and install the cooler properly. :D

Ok, I've looked into that cooler a bit and it appears you have it installed
correctly. =D

I would just make sure the fan is blowing UP.

thanks for your advice, so the easiest thing is just turn the fan over so its sucking air up and not blowing it out. didn't i read in the forum someone said the first 2 hours are the hardest, for me it was the first 8 hours. still I'm determined to finish it as its something I've always wanted to do.
