Building first computer.

Hello everyone,

Here is m problem:

I want a computer that's cost is less than 1000$ CAD and that is good for gaming. I also want to be able to upgrade it later, when I have the money for it.

What are your advices?

what's up with the psu and hdd, bot are overkill, for the hdd would be better off with 2 cheaper 500gb 7200rom's in raid 0 and for the psu all you need is something like a corsair/antec/xfx/pc p&c/silverstone/seasonic 600-650, but you could get something closer to this

ok. Learn something. Raid 0 may be faster, but your chances of failure are much higher. In Raid 0, if one of your "cheaper" drives fail, you still loose all of your data.
Second off, Its a 990Fx board. Supports SLI, and so does the card. So, if he wanted to in the future SLI would be there for him, and he wont need a replacement PSU.
 
i wasn't saying cheaper hdd's, was saying not as fast ones, but i know what you were saying, but i just think he might want more speed now than in a year or 2 or something

to answer your question, I'll play games like Skyrim, Teamfortress, Assassin's Creed, Crysis and so on.

I know some games need a really powerful computer, but I don't have the money right now, that's why I want to be able to upgrade.

I've got a newbie question: What are the main differences between an Intel processor or a an AMD processor?
 
the diff is intel is plain faster, but in game you really won't notice a difference between them unless it's like an i3 v a phenom x4 955, then the amd will win thanks to its 4 cores, it's really a back and forth battle, but once you're at close to 200 then the intels win every time.

That's kind of exactly what you said....

And just for the record, while the i3 and some models of the i5 are dual core, they still have 4 way processing. Yes, not quite as effective as 4 actual cores, but the sandy bridge architecture is a lot more advanced. You'll actually see the i3 and 955 go neck and neck with each other. In a lot of cases, the i3 (keep in mind, I'm talking 2nd generation) benches faster than the 955.
And if you are paying $200 (which is what I imagine "close to 200" means) You have the option of the 1100T, which is a very powerful processor compared to the intel processors you can get at that price. If you compare benches, the 1100T benches higher than the i5 2400.
 
i meant by close as in like the 2500k is currently 205 for the next day, and even normally at like 220 that's sort of close to 200, but in gaming i was saying if you put a i3 2100 to a 955, the advantage in alot of games goes to the 955 which will be faster with its 4 cores, while in dual threaded games the i3 will win by a lot, and in terms of the i5 v the 1100t, the i5 kills it in games since only fsx will use the 2 other cores, so it's basically like haveing a 955 v a i5

and for the hdd's, i meant cheaper as in the 500gb's will be cheaper than the 1tb wolfe posted, not cheaper as in cheapy low end crappy ones.
