building gaming pc, which processor should i get?

i'm building a gaming pc, with a great video card, (almost 1000 stream processors, 1 gig of DDR5 memory), it will also have about 4 or 5 gigs of ram. What i am asking is which processor i should get. I am intending to use this pc for gaming. Not like video editing and stuff... just gaming. So one of the processors is default clocked at 3.0Gghz, and has a 4mb cache. The other is default clocked at 3.3Gghz and has a 2mb cache. I am aware that i can overclock them both. The one with the larger cache and lower clock is more expensive. So i am wondering which is better... to have a lower clock and higher cache, or a higher cache and lower clock? Oh, and they are both dual core.

by the way, here are the links to the processors of you need more details:

3.3Gghz with 2mb cache: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6689692

3.0Gghz with 4mb cache: http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Core-2-Du...850-/180466001913?pt=CPUs&hash=item2a049ca7f9

Just so you know, i am not at all worried about their prices. I am perfectly willing to buy the more expensive one if it is better. I'm just asking not to base your opinion on my wallet.

both are overpriced imho.... id go with a different socket, around the am3 or socket 1155 platforms, which are current.

Nice!

The 3.0 GHz is alittle faster with the core clock speed being 1333 vs the 3.3GHz which is 1066. But the larger the cache, the longer the latency. Small caches are faster than large caches. Keep that in mind. The Intel Core 2 Duo is just a little faster then the Intel Pentium Dual-Core. :)

well, i'm not actually building a computer right from scratch, i'm upgrading the main components on the motherboard that i already have, so i can't switch sockets. The socket i have is 755

so you mean... the 3.0gghz one will play games better, but will take longer to load?? i don't completely get what you said. i just want the better choice for gaming

The C2D is not worth it, get an E6500 (Pentium Dual core) exactly the same chip as the E6800 just clocked a little lower, and a small tweak in the BIOS should have you clocking skyhigh, enough to keep up with far more expensive CPUs

I agree with fastdude, you should get the 2 Quad...MUCH better for games, and worth the xtra $$$.. :D

Did I miss it or did no one ask what model Socket 775 motherboard he has already? What are the specifications of your motherboard? We need this information so we can determine what processors will work with your present system.

Since I don't think it has been answered yet, I might as well, before the OP begins frothing at the mouth. The Core 2 Duo E6850 is the better one of the two for gaming. By a hair.
