I'm new to upgrading/building computers. i have a computer that I revived from my brother this Christmas and I'm looking to upgrade what I need in it and make it a gaming computer. I'm tight on money so I've looking been looking at parts on ebay and I'd like an extra opinion. I'm not quite sure of the components in it already, but i can find out if needed.

Is this computer a custom built or store bought pc? We would need as much information about it as possible.

If store bought then all we need is make and model number.

If custom built would need all the specific parts used, model numbers would help greatly.

Custom built by a friend of my brothers. I'm very new to this so I have a question. To find out all the components in the computer do I need to open it up or is there somewhere I can look in the settings? It was originally built for video editing

If you open the side panel there should be a model number stamped somewhere on the motherboard. Or you can take a picture of it showing the full motherboard if you can't find the model number.

Unfortunately, this is an outdated motherboard. Your best bet is to build a total new system. How much of a budget do you have?

$900 is too much but its a good system. You have to be really careful on ebay and craiglist.

Okay. I was looking at trading for that system on craigslist. If you want I can provide the links for the parts I'm looking at on ebay, so i can get your opinion on weather the seller it trustworthy.

I also need some help with some product info. I got an emachines w3503 with an Intel Celeron D 3.3 GHz 533MHz, 2GBs RAM and NVIDIA GeForce GT 520. Looked to upgrade the processor but found the motherboard will not support a dual core or higher. Someone suggested updating the BIOS, which I did. Have not installed new processor but will the BIOS update allow the motherboard to run the processor? And if not, any suggestions on a motherboard that will except the parts I have? Will an eMachines T6216 work as a swap? Thanks.

To the OP, you can spend about $150 and get a GTX 650 video card that will work fine in your current PC. Not necessary to scrap what you have.

To the last question, you are definitely a good candidate for a total hardware refresh. Depending on your needs and budget, I could sort out a pretty good list for you.

Waiting to hear back.

When you get a chance I'd like a list. Also I don't have much of a budget I usually trade on craigslist, although I am getting ready to sell so things and i would have about $300 to spend

The problem is depending on what games you want to play, some require a quad core processor which the board you have doesn't support. You are better off building a new system instead of wasting money on something that won't work.
