Building my own computer

hook it up to a diffeent monitor and burn a disk of ubuntu, it's a freeware based on the same thing mac osx is based off of, just takes a little programming/googling skill

Good idea, but I just don't have another monitor right now... I just have my netbook and my tower... :S

I tracked my monitor and it says that it is in a city near where I live, so I guess I shoud receive it tomorrow. Seriously, up to now, newegg.ca rocks. However, I ordered my windows 7 home premium french OEM copy at bestdirect.ca 3 days ago also, and I haven't received an e-mail telling me it was shipped. I wrote to them, also telling them that my account at bestdirect.ca was only showing "no order pending" when I was looking at my order status. The guy from the customer service told me thant my order had already been shipped (wtf?) and that he was thankful that I was doing business with them... lol.

Anyways, I went back to my account there and it says that:

Description Qty Unit Total
Brother MFC-8890DW Multifunction Monochrome Laser Printer 32PPM 1200X1200DPI SCAN/COPY/FAX USB LAN 1 $547.04 $547.04
This order will ship Free Ground Shipping
This order is FULLY insured for the full value.

$120.16

So obviously, the price is right, but the item ordered is wrong, so very wrong... They better not charge me that amount, especially since they already charged me the 120$... 547$ for a printer that I didn't order, seriously? Plus, it says that it's still in their warehouse in Vancouver! WTF?

So if you ask me, I think they just put some random order in my account... which is very wrong. I wrote back to them, but still no answer... I don't want to have to call my credit card company, but I might have to... DAMN!

Anyways, I'll wait a few days and see. Everything was perfect up to now... why did this have to happen?

Oh, and I was wondering. I have the Rosewill DESTROYER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case, and it comes with 3 fans. On my motherboard, there is a place where I can connect the rear fan pin, but for the 2 others, I don't see any place to connect them on the motherboard. The 2 other fans have some white plugs, "male" and "female" with 4 big holes and 4 big pins on each, and I can just plug them to the power supply. It means that everytime I just turn on the computer, it starts doing as much noise as an air conditionner! Is there a way to plug them to the motherboard so I can control their intensity?

Thanks in advance,

Hi guys,

This is just to tell you that my computer is AMAZING and works like light speed! I'm installling microsoft security essentials right now (I have it on my other computer and it works fine), and I installed all the drivers with the cd's that came with the components. I'll post pics soon! :)

Oh, and I can't thank you all enough for the help you have given me on this forum. I am still a computer newbie, since I only built one pc, but I feel like I have learned a lot already.

Take care,

Ok, so bigfella, I did update windows and the different drivers. (I had to, the non-updated driver of my video card was making my computer crash, lol...) I thought it wouldn't be necessary to do those updates, but it is! :)

Jonnyp11, I wrote to the customer care service and they replied to me, telling me that they were so very sorry, and that they had made a mistake on their website only, so they did send the windows 7 premium, and not the printer. I finally received it by dhl express yesterday, so I might give another chance to bestdirect.ca in the future...

There is just something that is bothering me: the fans. They maintain the case and components at a good temperature, that's a given, but they make quite a lot of noise. I don't know how to connect them to the motherboard to control them, since the plugs of the fans that came with the case seem to have some kind of male and female white big plugs with 4 big pins and 4 big holes. I connected them to the power supply cables through those plugs, but I don't see how to connect them to the motherboard. There is, at the tip of the power supply cable on which they are plugged, a 4 holes plug that seems to be able to fit on one of the CHA-fan 4 pins, but it doesn't seem to fit once you try to put them together. Think you could help me? The noise isn't THAT bad, it's just like having a fan or an air conditionner besides me...

Anyways, thanks again,

Computernewbie

for about 20 newegg has some controller panels, but also have to factor in shipping to canada, but you plug the power into the panel and turn the nobs and it regulates the amount of power sent to each fan, but i think it only works with some fans, but should work with yours i guess, someone should be able to tell you that part after reading this.

Thanks, man. The noise is bearable, I think I'll just put my computer on the ground, under my desk. It'll certainly be less noisy... I'll wait before spending more on this computer anyways...

But seriously, building computers might become one of my hobbies! :) I love it! Do you think there is a way to make money with that, not like a job, but more like a side job? It would rock if I could build affordable computers and sell them to people to make profit! :)

Anyways, take care,

Hi guys,

Just a quick update about my pc. I've had trouble with newegg about a screen I ordered, so for a few days, I've had an old 17" monitor. Long story short, they sent me a broken monitor, I sent it to them, and I got a refund. So I bought a very nice 20" lg monitor at futureshop instead.

So far, everything looks good. The pc never gets hot and the temperature on the components seems just fine. I just bought mass effect 2 and I can play it very smoothly at the highest settings, which I find awesome.

I should post pictures soon. Thanks again guys for your help. I'm more confident than before and I think I can start building computers for my whole family!

Take care,

Computernewbie
