Building new computer

Hi All,
I have a question about building a computer from parts...I really need a second machine that I use just for web development projects (mostly writing/testing php), but I don't have a ton of money to spend (probably just a few hundred dollars). I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade a few key components (cpu, mobo, hd ?) of an older machine to get it up to snuff. I have an old Dell desktop that I bought in 1999 that might be a good candidate for this, but not sure. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can do that. You might be limited on your graphics card if it doesnt have an AGP slot. Anyways, what are the specs?

Thanks. It's a Dell Dimensions XPS T450 that was running Windows98 (now Ubuntu Linux); it has a few G's of HDD, 96 RAM and a Pentium 3

I would look into upgrading the ram and hdd first. I dont know much about the inside of dells but that shouldnt be to hard to do.
