Building New Computer

Hello, I am new to the forums but not new to the computer world. Please stick with me, kinda behind the ball on new technology, in the Navy submarine force and only get to read some magazines every one and a while to stay current. Finally heading back home for a couple weeks and friend wants me to build him up a computer for $2000. He wants to be able to record TV shows on it, Gaming and Misc.

Questions I have are…
-Worth running like 2 MSI NX7600 with only 12pixelframes in SLI? or just run a 256 with 24?>
-He wants to be able to record TV shows so input needed, Will VIVO be able to do that?

i believe 2 is always better than 1 when it comes to graphics. As for tv shows i believe you need a tv tuner card hope this helps

When using SLI you won't notice that much of an increase in performance unless you play games at high resolutions, above 1024x768, with AA and AF.

MSI is kinda medium motherboard for the price range of the overall project. The new pentiums (can't recall the name of them at this time) are supposed to be putting Athlon on the grind. (Hard to believe... mind you I'm a total Athlon fan) Aparently Athlon equipment is coming down a fair bit in price. Going that route will allow you to invest into some trick hardware. The new CD media burners that Sont is putting out for example. I'm a bit rusty myself when it comes to the new equipment (Obviously) Just suggesting to look closely for the basic materials depending wether you are after performance or bang for your buck. (It's 4:15am here, so I'm not sure if I'm even making sense atm)
