Building new PC - Need Help

I'm not sure how much I'm wanting to spend on a new PC...but I think I'm gonna set a budget for the best components I can buy without the price going berserk. Like think of how most people won't tread into waters past 2600k...it seems to be the best most people are willing to get into that have higher-end PCs generally speaking. I want to make a PC with the best quality materials I can get.

I may ask for a few builds this thread...since I haven't completely figured out what I want with all the money I have. I might just go off and do a crazy build for $2500 or go modestly good for $1500 but I don't want to set a price yet.

Here are the things I want:

MoBo: Amazing Motherboard with onboard USB 3.0. I'd like this to be the most modern we can get...I need a really good USB 3.0 motherboard. Has to have 3.0 BUILT in.

CPU: I'm thinking probably a i7 2600k...but this is a toss up between 2600k and a 3930...it's like a $300 price difference between the two but I need a great CPU...I know 2600k will probably work.

GPU: Whatever is a good one for the price. I definitely don't need a hardcore GPU since I do almost no PC gaming...but I'd like this to be a well rounded PC in general...

RAM: 8-16 gigs of RAM would be nice. It's mostly cheap right?

PSU: I have no idea what a good power supply would need to be. I'll have a few extra things taking power from it like a webcam, microphone and video capture card that may be inside a PCIe slot...idk how much it takes for a good PC.

Cooler: Whatever cools an overclocked CPU well.

1080P monitor: 20-24 inches sounds good.

PC Case: Something big is nice...I've got the space for it in my room. Bigger ones are generally better right? More airflow etc?

HDD: Two Terabytes HD @7200 RPM would be nice.

SSD #1: Don't need a large one me-thinks...I'm only going to have windows loaded on it.

SSD #2: Would installing one just for PC Games & PC Programs like Photoshop be good for a separate one? I may install games on here and I may just toss larger programs like Adobe Premiere for when I make videos for Youtube.

DVD Drive: Any ol DVD DRive would be good I'm guessing?

Mouse: A computer mouse...nothing extravagant needed lmao

Keyboard: Nothing extravagant needed lmao#2

Once again...I'm not exactly looking for best price vs performance but I'm not exactly not looking for it as well. I want a very good PC BUT I know there's PC Parts to keep chasing higher up on the tier list that can drain like 4k builds on you. Most people stop at a 2600k i7 so that's probably where I want to stop etc. If I can have in regards those same specs I'd be happy.

I may ask for a few more builds after this as I change my train of thought since I want to make extra sure I'm getting the PC I really want. I'll buy the parts for these as soon as I'm satisfied.

If further explanations or input needed...let me know!

You said you aren't doing much gaming, so then what are you doing with it? (you mentioned photoshop, how intense do you use it, ie multiple layers, etc. What other programs besides photoshop?)

I would rather have one larger SSD than the hassle than having 2 of them along with another hard drive. Make sure its SATA III

Any DVD burner is fine, unless you want bluray.

Power supply, I'd go 550w to 650w since you don't need that good of a graphics card. Look for the brands Corsair, antec, silverstone, seasonic, pc power and cooling, nzxt, or xfx.

Not much PC gaming but I do Console video game streaming over the internet...which needs an amazing CPU and I need a USB 3.0 motherboard of latest architecture preferably.

I hear SSDs break fast though, right? I heard having one dedicated to windows is better and one for the rest of your stuff.

No Blu-Ray. Dont' see me ever using blu-ray discs on my PC. Just a regular DVD/CD one.

Power supply...I'd rather go with caution on the better one regardless. I'm not trying to pinch too hard for what I need. I want a good margin of comfort etc.

650w would be plenty, then. Any more powerful, it'd be more for two video cards, which you'll never need.

SSDs have gotten a lot better over the years. They'll last just as long as regular hard drives, if not longer. The way SSDs work, you don't need to defrag them, and as long as you don't fill it up, it'll have the same performance as if you had two SSDs with windows on one and games/programs on the other. I wouldn't see the need for it.

2600k would be plenty, especially if you overclock it. But intel is releasing new CPUs later this year, so you can either wait or build now with a lesser CPU and replace it when they come out.

I'm gonna go with a 2600k for now...if my mobo lets me upgrade with the new socket set for the new CPUs I may get a better one if I need one...but I know what I do is intensely CPU exhaustive. With my old i5 laptop I couldn't broadcast at 720P...it would hit the max at like 600p. CPU plays the main roll in that drama.

If you're positive on the SSD thing...then I wouldn't mind going for a 128 gig SSD.

Even though I'm not looking for the most extravagant video card I still want a pretty good one.

It is against the rules to try to sell anything outside of the forsale forum, and you can not post there until you have 100 post.

Try selling your PC on craigslist...I'm still looking for help with this PC build. Is this thread going to die an obscure lonely painful death?

I left out the mouse and keyboard. It'd be best to go to a chain store and play around with them to see what you like.

For the case, there are a variety of them out there. You could get a pretty nice case for $60 and have it do whatever you need it to. Or you could go all the way to $200 and up for a really nice one. But really, the lesser expensive ones are not that bad. You just want to look for a good cable management and build quality. Coolermaster, Lian Li, Corsair, NZXT are some good brands.

How current of a MoBo is that? Do you think it's superior than a X58 mobo? If I wanted to pour around 300 more into my build...what would you suggest? I think that monitor deal runs out tonight or tomorrow night? if its tonight I should grab it now?

I'm gonna need a PC Case to house it all as well.

X58 is not the most up to date chipset and they're more for servers. Z68 is the most current, but I think they're releasing the Z77 soon. I don't know the advantages for it. The 1155 socket will support the new intel cpus coming out. It also has two PCIE 3.0 slots for graphic cards, which just came out not too long ago.

At the bottom of my last post, I said something about cases. Picking a case is tough for someone else is tough since there are so many choices and its more of a personal choice. The coolermaster 912 is a great budget case and will do anyything you need it too. Any of the HAF series are great. Any corsair, there are about 7 of them I think. The nzxt phantom is a good choice too.

I don't really know much about PC Cases though...what's a good mid-range price quality case? Could you link me to a few good ones and I'll make a choice or something?

Purchased. Thanks, claptonman. Went with the blue coolermaster case. I just hope I didn't leave anything out. Looks like a good build. $1,500 after taxes and shipping.

I just HOPE this Motherboard works with my capture card...

I just got around to putting this PC together and here's a few of my thoughts:

I tried to install the aftermarket cooler onto my motherboard and PC Case [I chose the HAF 932]

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...na&AID=10521304&PID=4169961&SID=1hkufzhkib61h

1)On the back of the case where you can see the exposed backplace of the CPU on the back of the motherboard where you mount the aftermarket coolers support thing...the case has part of that blocked off...so I couldn't actually mount the bracket. Someone suggested cutting it but I don't really want to be Dr. Jekyll tonight and do anything like that so I just went with the stock cooler. Maybe I did something wrong though...I don't know.

2) Also, I could use any Links for any drivers I should install since I'm new to the whole making PC stuff but I realize I should get drivers for stuff. Like the mobo, graphics card, audio drivers and local area connection drivers or something?

3) The more urgent thing I have about this motherboard and CPU case...is that there's 4 Case Fans on this HAF 932. But there's 3 inputs on the mobo for fans. One of those inputs doesn't look like it's compatible with the three-pronged Fan plug. One of them is like a 5 horizontal prong with another single prong at the end of the row going up. So it kinda looks like this:

-
- - - - -

It's labeled as Syst FAN2 or something but it doesn't fit with the case's fans of 3 prongs that should look like this

- - -

So I couldn't use the third fan but I managed to get two into the mobo out of the four on the case.

I tried to install the fans directly to the PSU...but for some reason the adapters on the fan plugs themselves wont fit into the power plugs [and STAY on] the PSUs power. I verified they do turn on if I apply tons of force from both my hands to keep them conjoined but if I let go they disperse and fall off each other. So I need some way to have the Fan Adapters be able to fit by maybe using another adapter into the PSU plugs? Idk. I need help with this one...

Then this PC is pretty much made. I just hope it has a Reneasas Electronics 3.0 Folder on it to ensure I didn't waste all this money buying it for a Capture card I can't actually use on the PC D:

I can give more input/pictures/videos if this explanation isn't clear though. Thanks
