hi there, im thinking of building myself a PC, this will be my first build. what im not sure about is the PSU, how do i tell what wattage etc i need?
can someone explain this too me? or link me to somewhere that explains it?

Don't underestimate the importance of a PSU... and don't oversimplify it either! The numbers on most supplies are just marketing ploys. Get a decent name like Antec. If you use a cheapy, it will not last and it will likely fry your system (and.... burn your house down). Antec's 350W supply is more than enough for my 3GHZ P4, so anything there and up should be fine. Expect to spend $60+ on the supply.

yeh, after reading PSU 101 (thanks praetor), im thoroughly reserching which PSU to get, i have had a look at the antec 350w and im currently thinking about that.

Dont. Its plenty good but you can do better for your money (that antec weighs in at like 45 bucks). THe PSU101 is horribly outdated but here are some quick suggestions for that price ballpark

I think the point was get a good brand name not a crummy cheap model that will do damge. Though Antec is a good brand...
