Ok if your building on a budget. What do you rank your componts in. like when i build one i like to get a nice MOBO and a NICE CPU 2 main things. FX card comes next but i rank my ram quite low. so really how important is the brand or quility of your ram is a question i guess...

like i only got budget(cheapest there is) ddr 2 800 ram(1 gig). so i could spend more on my FX card and stuff does anyone do this or is it just me.

how important is ram when it comes to buliding on a budget.I'm guessing this is the item that effects least in performance as long as you have enough ram it should effect least right?(i use my computer for gaming)

so how important is ram .. and what order do you rank your components?

this is mine

MOBO
CPU
FX
PSU
RAM
HDD
DVD
MONITOR
MOUSE
KEYBOARD

The RAM is fairly important...it definitely has a big impact on performance. Instead of skimping on parts, it's better to just save up longer and make sure everything is balanced.

but i don't get it,if you take some corsair ddr2 800 and some like trancend or generic ddr2 800(cheapbrand) how much difference is some timeings(i think thats all thats different) going to make. incomparison to your cpu or graphic's card.

The speed of the memory is what matters, not necessarily the brand.

Fast memory is expensive, tho.

There's no cheap 900/10000 memory

I would say #1 is a 3 way tie between motherboard, memory, and processor.

You can use onboard video, or an old card for a while.

You can use an old hard drive for a while.

You can use onboard or an old sound card for a while.

You can use an old power supply for a while.

You can obviously use your old mouse and keyboard.

If you've got enough for a mobo, processor, and memory, you've got a start.

Everything else can be changed/added.

arh i see.., but can someone explain how much performance difference that would make? I'm running ddr2 800 ram atm how much differance would ddr2 1066 make, is it worth twice the price as cheap ram? cause i could buy 2 gigs of ddr2 800 for the price of 1 gig of ddr2 1066(or higher). Well i can in New Zealand(next to Australia) donno about America or else where.

Well, if you buy top end ram, there's a good chance you'll be able to overclock it considerably.

I mean, it's up to you. But if you're gonna skimp, why not just stick with the system you already have?

Cause I can still over clock with my ddr2 800 just make sure i dont go above the 800mhz(or 400 effectively) it runs at. I have a E6400 running at 3.2ghz 400mhz fsb 1:1 ratio to my ram. Its way faster than my old one concidering i was only using ddr 400 ram before, you can't really compair my new pc against my old system as this is a major performace differance so thats y I or anyone else wouldn't stick with my old system, and who gets a motherboard that has onboard graphics? if its intended for somewhat performance.Snice ram and graphics can both be replaced any what I think your arguement of Ram isn't very strong to what i see. if you have good ram but on board graphics or a crappy old graphics card your performance will be way worse compared to if it was other way round. Good fx card will do more than good ram if your gona put it like that. How are you gona play like oblivion on a onboard or old graphic's card on high res and AA AF on without lagging or eching.

I think ram is important but not as important as you make it out to be least not above your graphics card when it comes to performance(for gaming anyways).

And most of your ranking is based on using old parts what I ment was building a new comptuer. Where you don't have old parts that will work on a computer.

woa woa woa .. i thought the whole reason for this was for self built PC's ... what the heck??? why whould i get a prebuilt pc... u dnt really even have a choice on ur component spenditure that way. whole point on the ram thing? why would that matter if i got a pre build pc???

Man i hate pre built PC's there such a rip off.
