Building PC for the first time

I'm building a pc for the first time and i wanted to ask if the Athlon64 supports 32bit architecture as well. And if my CPU is 64bit, which windows do i install? Windows XP - Normal (32) or 64bit version of Win XP?

Yes, AMD 64 supports 32 bit as well. As for your other question, it depends on how much you are willing to spend. You would get most out of Windows X64, but it also costs more than regular Windows XP.

Not sure if the 64bit is viable yet, the driver support is still pretty poor last i checked.

I'm aware that the x64Bit win XP cost more but as long as I have no problems running 32Bit application/games etc... on the 64Bit CPU i'm willing to spend the money.
Thanx for your help

Yeah, XP 64-bit still has quite a few holes in it... you'd be better off just getting the 32-bit now and upgrading next year when Vista comes out.

no need to upgrade to a 64bit OS yet, there still a bit shaky. Wait until holes and bugs are fixed and driver support is more universal.

It's viable enough.
