what are some things i should take account when putting a computer together?

to prevent static from frying my hardware (or anything else that could screw it up)

what kind of surface should i put my computer together on, and should i be wearing special gloves or something?

I built my system on a hard wood floor rather than on carpet... never used antistatic stuff, but did take the precaution of touching the PSU every time before handling any hardware.

Give me a break

You don't know enough to even understand your replys to topics like
Monitors before you even know this.
You are not ready for this,ok.
Or stop playing games.
Yes computer gloves at wallmart only $695.00 :D

i usually touch the case the metallic part usually silver parts leave it there for at least 10-15 seconds for the static to discharge. dont really need a ground wrist unless really anal about screwing up everything.

...Don't know what Bluto's talking about, but... As long as you assemble it in a fairly static-free area (such as a tiled kitchen), and you ground yourself every few minutes (or wear a static bracelet), you should be fine. I assembled mine on a wood table in the kitchen, and occasionally touched the case, and everything was fine.

wtf are you talking about?

and $695.00 for gloves, yeah right, i'm not retarded

I've built my machine on wood floors, metal floors, carpeted floors you name it. I've never had a problem with static discharge through the components. As long as you don't PURPOSEFULLY try to create static the amount you DO create will be negligable.

I am going to get told off for saying this... but get two 1024 sticks, then if you ever wanna get any more unnessisary ram you have room for 2 more gb's!

it depends on whether you've got a dual channel setup or not... see RAM 101
