Im just curious on this. Take for instance this 1000$ Dell XPS Studio offered at best buy

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9180423&type=product&id=1218046802234

Now youd be hard pressed to build that computer for that price. Is dell using low quality parts for Motherboard, memory, PSU, Graphics card, Drives etc since you dont know the brand they use. Or does dell get such a volume discount on there components so they can offer a good deal. Your thoughts???????? I still like the idea of building from parts that I buy and know what they are.

yes they do. For an i7 build, they even went cheapo on the video card.

Intel Core i7 920 - 288.99 (can get cheaper)
MSI X58 Pro LGA 1366 - 189.99
Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 - 53.99
HIS Hightech H485FN512P Radeon HD 4850 512MB - 139.99
Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W - 44.99
SAMSUNG HD642JJ 640GB - 69.99
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 - 54.99

Total - 842.93

Buy your i7 at microcenter? for like 240, save 40 bucks, system = $800

mouse and keyboard = $20

GL!

EDIT: AHHHH forgot optical - $25, anything else I missed?

I figured that was the case. I even did some reading that dell uses proprietary parts so if you want to upgrade you have to go through dell. Things like special power supplys and special form factor motherboards
