I have:
ASUS PSB Deluxe/wifi
e6400 Core 2 Duo

When do I apply the Thermal Compound?

Do I apply it onto the CPU itself BEFORE I close the ZIF thing

or

Do I apply it onto the CPU cover(the thing that closes on top of the CPU) before I install the Heasink/fan?

thank you

Hmm

Heya,

if you bought the boxed version, the thermal compound is already pre-applied on the HSF. It's a gray patch. If not, then you should apply the thermal compound directly on the silver part of the CPU before putting the HSF on top of it and before securing it all in place. You should not put the heat compound anywhere else.

Apply on the silver surface (top part) with a very thin layer (less than 1mm)

Hi. Thanks for the info!

I do have one question tho.

You did mention that Intel has pre-applied the thermal compound, and that it should look like a gray patch. Well, on the bottom of the HSF its not one gray patch but rather three gray patches, with a space between each patch... is this normal? is that the compound?

heres a pic i took (terrible resolution from phone camera)

thank you

Good :)

Yeah sorry. I do remember that in the Core 2 Duo HSF, there are patches rather than one single patch like in the X2s and A64s from AMD. Anyway, that means that you will not need to apply anything other than what's already on the HSF. Good luck and let us know how it went.
