not long ago i built a pc for my father and there were no problems. now the usb drives were not recognizing anything so he called an IT company and they took out a battery in the motherboard and put it back in. this fixed the problem. Now of the pc is put in sleep mode or left on overnight it will have horozontal lines of different colors going across the screen...and its completely frozen. sometimes if you restart the lines will show up again and you must restart a second time.

anyone know what is going on?

do they show up during post or during windows? you may have a bad driver issue...and could roll back the OS using windows restore.

I do NOT recommend using sleep/hibernation, it just is not supported properly at times and does more harm than good, shut the computer down, its less hassle, and if you want fast boots, install a SSD...no reason for sleep then.

Maybe the CPU or mobo has sh*t itself.

As furyrosewood said, try a graphics card, it could be making it into windows but just the graphics doesn't let you see it.

Posting is the process of the computer going through and checking itself to see that all parts are operating correctly. If they are, it will post, and will attempt to boot windows.

What exactly is displayed on the screen after pressing the on button?
