Not sure if i'm in the right place are not, so sorry if in the wrong place.

What i'm trying to do is take my old gateway 500se and turn it into a huge mp3 player you could say. i want it so i can pop a music cd in the cd drive and it will rip the songs off and store it on the hard drive in a folder in mp3 format, Then the mp3 player will randomly play the mp3s in that folder.

any software out that will let me do this?

i bought a small media case from http://www.xoxide.com/silverstone-lc11-b-htpc.html

Are you kidding me?

okay, thats why Limewire has a Library, so does windows media center. and also why you have a little something called "My Music" to go along with it. not only that, but this so called "MP3 player" you want can also write documents and search teh intraweb....

What i'm trying to do is, when i pop music cd in the cd drive, it will AUTOMATICALLY rip the songs from the cd, Then AUTOMATICALLY save them in "My Music" as a mp3

You should be able to set up a script that will open the ripper of your choice, automatically burn and launch the player afterward...

You'd want to change the default action for music CD insert to call teh script. Mixed media CDs might be a problem, I'm not sure how that would work.

You realise that unless your connected ot the internet, or you spen ages typing in the names, all the tracks will be "unknown - track??"

also itunes does it, i think, but it usualy won't get track info if you set it to be automatic
btw: i hope you're not hoping for this mp3 player to be too portable :P

I doubt you'll find anything that automated. You will have to use some sort of software and specify bitrate and directory etc. If I am wrong please correct me.

I do sometimes ;).

Yup there is not way around it that I know of.

Again I'm sure it will ask you bitrate, directory etc.

I only use musicmatch when I rip CD's to mp3 so I have no experience doing so with anything else.

With WMP and iTunes, you pre-set the desired bit-rate and folder for rips in the options menu. Then, if iTunes (probly WMP as well), you can easily get it to rip music just by putting the cd in.
