Hi everyone,

I have a very large file that is about 1.2gigabites. Since blank CDs only hold 700mb, how do I setup a burn session so that I can say, have the burner ask for a second disk to continue the burning progress?

What do people do if they have a file larger than a CD blank besides use a DVD blank? (File zipping does not work)

***HEADING SHOULD READ "Burn more than 700mb on a CD***

Thanks!

what kind of file? if it's video, you'll either have to convert it to a lower resolution, or you can find some app to split it in two.

Well if its a single file you can use HJSPLIT and split it into 100-700mb chunks.

RAR the file into 650 chunks always works. I notice a higher burn fail rate when you do 700mb vs 690mb\

But your not packing more then 700mb on a disc without butchering the quality (if its a video)

Thank you everyone, i will look into the options provided. I guess it isn't like the old days with floppy disks :D

go with twist86's idea. use hjsplit.exe

i used to do this back in the cd days.

it'll split the file xxx.001, xxx.002, etc. you can rejoin them later.

split them in 700mb chunks.

The question has been asked as to what type of file you are referring to whether video which will automatically chew drive space up or some other large file? To maintain file integrity for any large file whether an avi or mpeg II video file or some other data like a backup compressed into a large archive you wouldn't even be considering a cd-r but creating a "data dvd" since a dvd-r will hold upto 4.2 approximately.

For the present system here I could easily burn the 20.6gb of files like updates, wav, jpg, icon, and other file types I store on an external drive to just 5 blank dvd-rs for seeing those on removable as well. But you need a dvd burner for that option.
