Burning file error

I am trying to burn a WMV file onto a DVD RW disk, but it gives me the error

Windows encountered an error while trying to copy this file. What would you like windows to do?

I have a DVD RW drive, and have tried burning it through WMP and drag/drop/write to disk.

How can I fix this?

That's a "one size fits all" error message. Not a lot of use. It does not appear in the error list in my WMP9.

Are you sure that the wmv file is not corrupted in any way? If it plays in WMP all the way through that should be a good indicator. Copy protected file? Does the file have an extremely long filename? Have you used the particular brand of dvd rw before? Do you have other dvd burning software you can try? There is a current thread on favourite dvd burning software with a few freeware apps mentioned.

Its the Halo 3 trailer. ;)
The name is Halo 3.
It plays all the way through with WMP, but Quicktime gives the error:

-2048: the file is not a movie file.

Did you scan the file for malware? If it came directly from the official site it should be clean. Otherwise suspect everything. I don't know if quicktime will play wmv. As I said in my first post, I would try another burning software. You could also try burning to dvd r. They are so cheap it's a throwaway if it does not work.

You can try other programs like NERO.
I never had success burning music with Windows media player. And I have never tried using it for burning movies. So my recommendation would be to try a 3rd party program to burn movies to dvd.
