I bought my computer this fall, and it had Nero 6.3 installed on it... so I used that for a while. Then it began creating sound lags on my dvds, sometimes all the way through from the start, sometimes it started in the middle of the film. There's nothing wrong with the original file, nor is there anything wrong with the dvd-players (I've tried the burned-out copies in different ones).
So I decided to get a new burning programme, as any alternative to this solution created a whole lot of work. But now I've tried Cheetah, Cucusoft, and Power Burner, and neither of them work as I would like them to. What I really need is a burning programme that will allow me to burn any type of video file whatsoever, and then allow me to play the finished result in my dvd-player. Does anyone out there know of such a one? I'd be grateful for any help whatsoever.

Well I use Nero 6 and CopyToDVD and all my burns turn out fine.

Well that depends on the user and the original file type and what your using to convert to a compliant dvd format.

You might want to explain exactly what your converting. Example ... for dvd backups I use DVD Decrypter to rip, Recode 2 to compress, CopyToDVD to burn.
 
Well, most of the files I need to burn are obtained through the internet or my friends, so the file types vary a lot... the thing is, with my Nero, I could actually burn close to any file I wanted without needing to convert them. And the earliest stuff I burned turned out just fine. but in the latter ones, the sound is either too early or too late, with about five seconds margin... I've got a converting programme called WinAVI video converter, but only used it once... as far as I understand it's capable of converting just about anything into just about anything. but I didn't need to use it, as Nero did burn anything....
I've still got Cheetah and Power Burner on my computer, but as far as I can tell, Cheetah only burns the files as computer files, and power burner burns IFO and Vob... I can of course convert all my files to these types, but I'd rather not, as it takes a lot of time, and I'm quite busy. Aside from that, WinAvi is very dominant, and leaves me with little possibility to use the computer while it's converting. And I always need to use my computer....
So what I'm basically wondering is if there is a programme that can do what my old Nero used to do, without me having to do a lot of extra work.
 
Try burning at a slower speed. Running other programs at the same time may also affect it.
Also, did you change to a different brand/model of DVD media? Have you tried re-installing Nero.

Considering that it was working fine originaly then stopped, try burning one of the first DVDs that worked originaly again and see if it works. Think of what other programs or hardware you have changed since it last worked... did you do any driver/codec updates?
 
Thing is, the sound troubles happen already in the preview. That is, in the midst of the start of the process, I get the chance to take a look at how things will work when the burn is completed. The sound lags appear already there. That means that as soon as I insert a file in Nero, Nero reencodes it or something and creates the lag...
And the first dvds I burned out I have deleted the original files to, as I didn't need them on the computer anymore and they were clogging up space. I woul have to rip the burned-out copy, and I don't have any programs for doing so.
I can't think of anything I could've done to make it fail like this... I'm scared to death of doing anything with my computer, because I'm not that computer-clever and I'm afraid it'll crash on me... I did download a new service pack or something from Microsoft that made my computer work at half speed of what it normally does, but I uninstalled it again when I figured out it only made trouble...
Reinstalling Nero hadn't occured to me, though it should. I'll try that first. Thanks a bunch!
 
Well, I reinstalled and it's still lagging. It started in the last part of the film this time, being quite fine until then. But I might try to change the priority of the file, or not touch that button at all, as I've several times done that in the encoding process... it's a good thing I've got rewritables!

We dont talk about movies that's downloaded off of the internet here.
 
ok,
1) Dont use rewritables to burn movies/vidoes they are crap!
2) Never ever multitask when burning a dvd never ever ever. Just set it of burning and go to sleep/eat/watch tv
3) If you downloading movies, just down load the DVD rip of it rather than a compressed avi divx or some other compression bollocks. Agreed it will take you longer to download, but you will get a smooth playback at digi quality.
4) Always burn a lowes speed available

there are positively hundreds of avi to dvd convertors, try using a few other.

if sound is your only problem maybe you need to update you codecs, of get better ones (this is a long shot)

Oh, but my files aren't illegal, they're downloaded from a site of which I am a member. So I've paid for them :) I'm sorry that I didn't clarify that.
Anyhow, I just wanted to say that I think I have figured out what creates the lag. It's probably me changing the priority of the burn. I didn't do it this time, when I burned out, and the copy turned out great, with no sound lag whatsoever :D
And to clarify this point too: I agree that the rw's are crap :) but most of my cds are not rws. I got the rws by mistake, and so I use them now to find out if there is any sound lag.
