my copy of windows xp pro is scratched to HELL, I get errors when inalling sometimes, and i have to keep hitting retry untill it works, i want to brun a copy i can use and keep the original safe before it gets so abd it wont work at all. Of corse i would still be useing the same CD key, and backing up your sofware is legal so how would i go about doing it? would just makign an iso image then burning it would fine? or is there any protection that alcohol can handle? or what should i do?

if it is scratched up so bad that it hardly works, then it is scratched up to bad to make a copy of it without errors :P
 
If your CD is damaged, then you either wont be able to burn an ISO Image of that disc, or it will containt the same corrupted files.

But you can try it. Nero should be able to make an ISO of that CD.
 
I can ussaly get it to work, i just have to jhit retry a few times on some of the files, so my plan was to burn it at lets say 8x, nice and slow, ussaly it will go without erroes IME, then fgoing full speed(52x) I just know alot of things are protected with thigns liike SecurROM i didn't know of windows p had anything like that, i only have 1 CD-R Left so i don't want to mess it up lol.

So if i just use nero(trail from there site) and go to "Back Up" then go to "Copy Disk" go to something like 8x, disk at once, and then just burn It should work? or.......?
 
I think i got it to work, the start menu for the disk comes up if i open it though my PC, but i dont want to reinstall windows to find out if the whole disk works haha, i didn't think that one out..

I "think" you can contact Microsoft and get another copy for a small fee (to cover shipping and the disc). I know that my brother got a replacement CD for an OEM version that was installed on his HP, but I don't remember all of the details.
