recently over clocked my computer, its dead now, checked inside and i found burned power connector on motherboard. where did i go wrong?

You pushed your hardware just a little too hard and something pulled too much current through when it mostly likely decided to short to ground. When you plan on OCing be sure to money to replace hardwares since they will be stressed pretty hard at times. It only takes a slight defect in one small component to cook a board.

What should i have done to prevent this? i have not set anything on CMOS but the CPU speed increase it to 850MHz the default was 667Mhz, i have read in other post that u need to increase the voltage as well. and u need a good motherboard to OC.

Being that is an old board something put simply couldn't take the increase of power running through it and gave out. You have to remember that OCing any hardware places a large increase of stress on it. If you are running a system that is several years old simply run it stock if you plan to keep it going. Something in the area of the burnt connection called it quits there.
