Business Networks

I’m going to straight with you from the start; this is for a college project.
I have been asked to design a network of computers for a small business. I was just wondering what you actually need for a network.
I’ve decided to use a client/server model as this will allow for easy expansion and remote log in’s from external systems and other offices.

So do apart from the PC’s I know I will need, what type of server would be best? What software would I need to look into? What wires/cable will I require? Any special type of printers necessary? And anything else you would like to suggest.

I have to write this up into a report, so any information you give will not be used directly into my assignment. So I’m not just being lazy I actually have no idea what to do. Assignment not very well explained at all however I think I understand the basics of what it ask.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

If any moe info is need ill give you as much as i can

The network will be so people can share files and documents between offices and rooms, on site and off site. access to the internet, able to block inaproperate websites, security for customers details.

it depends on the business the network is designed for.

but use a minimum of cat5a cable

you will need switches & routers min 100mbps

the servers depend on what you need web/file/application/proxy/firewall.

you will need a domain controllerand a VPN server for remote access .

the servers you can use windows servers or linux.
