Hello. I'm thinking of buying a new laptop that I will use for gaming. I have been looking at the Alienware M15x, and been watching reviews on youtube to see how good it is for gaming.

Currently I have a Dell Inspiron 1720:
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2GHz(Centrino if that helps)
3GB RAM
32-bit
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

It do works fine on many games. But there is alot of games I can't play. The games I play at the moment is Fallout New Vegas with lowest settings and at some places quite good lag^^ and the same with Rainbow Six Vegas, but with just minor lag.:(

I am planing to have a computer that will be able to run The Elders Scroll Skyrim when it comes out and it seems that the M15x might be able to run it good.(have seen on youtube people play Crysis on hight-very hight settings)

I DON'T want a desktop so we have that said. And don't wont to spent more than what I belive is 2 242 USD? live in Sweden so can't tell if that is the exact. And I want to know how much better Alienware M15x is compared to my current.

I have a hard time to customize the laptop so need help. Is the Intel Core i3 370M good for gaming when you have 512MB GeForce GT240M and 3GB RAM?

Sorry for long post and thanks for all help I can get.:)

What is your exact budget? 2 242????
Alienware M15x is overpriced and the specs that you customized won't play games at high settings. i3 370M won't be the fastest of all but it could handle games.
Why you don't want a desktop?

sorry for that. I actually edited my post after I used a currency converter, then I got 2242 dollars for how much I am willing to use. And the reason to why I don't wont a desktop is that I really like laptops, I like be able to carry it with me, tho I usually have it in my room. But I want to be able to carry it with me when I need to.

How about the i5 520M processor?

If it is 2242 USD then you should go for the quad core i7-740QM or Sandy Bridge CPU, a Geforce GTX 460M GPU, a blu-ray drive.
The i5 520M is dual core which won't handle future games.

yeah, well if I get those things I end up spending 3000 dollars, don't want that.
But how much better will the computer get if I take the 512MB GeForce GT240M and i5 520M processor compared to my current one? bet it can at least take Fallout New Vegas on High settings?

take a look at the New XPS 15. Select the one with Bluray, and its got the GT540m and i7-2620m for 1299 here in the US. The XPS is dell's performance line, so it will do everything that m15x will, just without all the LED's thats on the alienware.

ok, so I got help on another forum to and now it seems to stand between 2 computers:

Asus G51JX and XPS 15 customizised like Wolfeking said.

Which one of these is the best? seems that I get both very cheap, and aparantly they both can take Crysis, but the Asus is a bit better?

the XPS will way outperform that Asus. The GPU is 2 generations newer (= longer use), the CPU is faster (better in games.). All of this for about the same price.

alright. So if I customize the XPS 15 to this:

Intel Core i7-2620M processor
2GB RAM(or should I take with 3GB? think it is worth that little extra cost)
1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 525M

That is a good computer that will take most games? exactly how good is it?
sorry for all these noob questions:P but don't want to make a mistake, have done that some times.

on the ram, 4 GB is the best to shoot for. Most games wont read more, but youll see better multitasking performance with more Ram.
On the GPU, you will see better performance with the 540m than the 525m.
Here in the states the base option for the XPS15 is 4GB.

Which site are you customizing it in?
M15x Laptops come under 2000$ with i7 and GTX series Hardware and the XPS aren't actually gaming laptops and you will get heat problems in it.

BTW if you build a desktop in that budget you could get a monster i7 990x and GTX 580. The best ever.

XPS is built as a pure performance machine. I don't think there is going to be that much heat in them.
I just dont see paying for the name behind the Alienware line. You can get better performance for less elsewhere (even within the dell line).

I customize it on Dell. And I'm kind of used to heat problem on this one so that may not be a big problem for me.
And it doesn't have to be Alienware, just that I have seen gameplay on youtube with that one and it can take every game you throw at it. So basicly just want a laptop that is as good as the M15x.

I told you its a performance machine and not a gaming machine. My friends XPS has blown up 3 times due to heating problems and has replaced his XPS Mobo 2 times.
He was saved due to the complete cover provided by Dell. Thats why many people say, Dell fool the consumers by giving good service for bad products.

1 instance doesn't mean that the whole line is crap. In my experience, the performance machines are just as good quality as the gaming series, just with a lower cost.

Yes their quality is crap compared to Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo etc. Also Ocolot I customized Alienware M15x in Dell.com with the i7 740QM , GTX 260M (Not sure why 460M isn't available) and 6GB RAMfor less than 2000 $.
Give me your Dell site url and I could customize it for you. BTW it is hard to translate Sweden's language into English int the site, though I can translate most of the specifications. :)

well, I may have ****ed up the currency converter:P
here: http://configure.euro.dell.com/dell...sv&m_30=322839&oc=N00W1501&rbc=N00W1501&s=dhs

Otherwise from the help I got from 2 forums now, the Asus seem too be the better choice.
