Buying a computer package. Need expert advice

You could build a similar system yourself for around $300.00

In my opinion, they're both overpriced, and have very minimal information
provided about the hardware.

Although you will get support, which is worth something.

They're both do fine for what you want to use it for. =D

Those are both decent machines. I would probably go with the Acer over the Compaq based on specs if those are your only two choices.

I would recommend checking out Dell's website and look at the Inspiron 530 series. You can get a complete computer package direct from them for less than what Best Buy is offering.

AHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!! ROFL!!!!!!!!

Ok, serisouly though.... 600-650 for THOSE?? Come on man...you gotta build yourself a computer. Its easy. If you need instructions, that can be done easily.

For the same price:

22X LG DVD Burner

Case (cooler looking then those from bestbuy)

500GB SATA HDD from Samsung

Acer 20" LCD

Gigabyte Motherboard

2.9GHz AMD dual core

4GB RAM Corsiar RAM

430W Thermaltake PSU

Vista home premium sp1

total (shipped, 3 day, after $25MIR): $605

With my build, I didnt even go looking for the best deals. I bet you can get it for even cheaper. And you have a considerably better proc, more RAM, and you know what you get. Plus its cheaper because the price from best buy is + shipping. and the intregarted graphics are probably better.

Where's the need for this kind of response?

He's come for help, not ridicule.

Agreed, while I get the point of what he's saying, could have went about it a little more....politely shall we say. Everyone here knows he could build a much better computer than that for the same or less, but not everyone is cut out to build their own, however easy it may or may not be. But back on topic, those computers are pretty junky for the price you're paying, and if building you own isn't an option, then hunt around a little more for a better bargain.
More than 600 dollars for a pentium build is ridiculous, and while the details on both machines are sketchy, I'd guess the other is in the same performance bracket. While both will probably be fine for what you aim to use it for, I'm sure with a little bargain hunting, you could find a similar computer, maybe even better, for less.
If you do feel capable of building your own, you'll find no shortage of assistance from the members of this place, and there is nothing more satisfying than knowing you built your computer. Not to mention it would most likely beat the pants off of those overpriced junkers haha. If not though, definitely keep looking for something else that's less of a rip off.

To compromise between buying one and finding pieces and putting them together, go with a barebone such as this or this, which would both be more than adequate for your uses. From there, just add cd drives, better graphics cards,, etc. today, all you do is screw the motherboard into the case, and the rest is straightforward: if the socket it square, the square-ended wire goes into it... :)

While I agree that those machines are on the higher side, they do come with decent monitors. It is a package deal. You can easily find the specs on those two machines as well if you follow the links on site a little further. ...and yes...you could easily build a comparable machine for less...but...

Some people would prefer to purchase a computer that they would get support from a manufacturer from. Yes, in most cases building a computer is cheaper for the parts you get, but that support means something to a lot of people. Also, most of the world does not feel comfortable at all in building their own computer. That is why memory upgrade services at places like Best Buy exist. It may seem silly to you, but then again, you are comfortable working on the inside of your machine.

Please be more tactful in your approach.
