Buying a Laptop

Heya!

I have plans of buying a laptop (never owned one before), and i need some guidance on what to buy (not that hightech when it gets to computer specs. etc.).

My budget is around 1000-1300$ and i'm going to use it for games & schoolwork. So it has to be able to do alot i guess.

I've been looking around and found a comp that seems decent i guess, and it's within my pricerange, the specs are:

ACER 5105WLMI

Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 TL58
RAM: 2048 Mb (2X1024)
Hard-drive: 160GB
Graphic: ATI X1100 Built-in 512 mb split memory
Optical unit: DVD+-RW dual layer
Screen: 15,4" WXGA
OS: Windows vista home premium

Since i have basically NO knowledge about the graphic card, processor (except that it's NOT going to be a celeron), optical unit, screen or whatever. I'd appreciate your suggestions ALOT.

(If this comp doesn't cut it for what i need it to do, please suggest another one within my pricerange - not more than 1300$ preferrably)

NOTE: I live in Sweden

Thanks alot !

/Joel

welcome to the forums Paddington please take time to review the forum rules.
As for your laptop, i have to sya its very good,a first look without reading the title it will probably look like a desktop.lol.
everything is good, and 160Gb is enough

I wouldnt buy that laptop, especially if you want to game.

You can buy a Dell Inspiron E1520 with a Core 2 Duo @ 2.0, 2GB of RAM, 160GB HD, and an 8600M GT for around $1300.

@ Both: Thanks for the advice :)

@ Omega: Why wouldn't you buy that laptop? Just curious and wanting to expand my knowledge :P On the other hand, i'm not a stranger to Dell computers, as my current desktop is a Dell and has been treating me very good up until recently for about 4~ years :)

The reason I wouldnt buy that laptop is because it's not worth $1000-$1300. If you go to Circuit City you can find a 17" laptop with 2GB of RAM, 200GB HD, X2 ~1.8-2.0, and an 8600M GS for around $1299.

My point is, for a laptop with integrated video, thats too much money. If you want to game you should look into a laptop with a decent dedicated card.

And the Dell has that? (don't know, haven't checked it's specs yet :P)

Again, thanks alot :)

or you can try HP...
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...e&v1=Entertainment&series_name=dv9500t_series
thats a 17" laptop with 2GHz processor 2MB L2 Cache, 2GB RAM, 8600M GS, 240GB Hard Drive (2x120GB), and LightScribe burner for US$ 1224.99 before shipping.

:):)

*EDIT*
Apparently, I can't link straight away to the customize page. So click on customize and get the same configuration as I did and you should totaled up to the same as what I posted.
