Buying a New Hard Drive

I bought a laptop last boxing day for $400, it isn't amazing, but I didn't need anything amazing. I travel as often as I can, and a laptop really is a must. I take lots of pictures, and a lot of videos which I try and edit while I'm out. So far this laptop has been great for what I paid for it, but there's one problem with it. The hard Drive sucks.

For one its 5400 RPM, second, its only 250gb. It isn't really slow and I also have lots of space left, but the thought that a very cheap upgrade can make a big difference drives me insane.

I have a problem though, it never came with a windows 7 installation CD.

There's a product key for windows 7 on the bottom of my laptop, but will this work if I install windows 7 with a USB or with my upgrade version of windows 7 disks? Or is it kind of "locked" to my current hard drive?

You will need to contact the maker of the laptop for recovery cd's so you can reinstall windows 7 on a new hard drive. Depending on the maker they are usually 15-30 bucks.

I think your easiest option is to get the largest external drive you can, and then when you are "home/work" transfer all the pic`s/video over to the ex h/d and delete from the lappy, leaving it free to take on your worklcase for the next time
That way you dont loose anything if lapy gets lost/broken
