Buying a new hd

I need some halp pleez
Im wanna upgrade my 80gb hd HDS728080PLA380 40Y9028LEN, googled it and found some obscure sites saying its a SATAII drive. I've also looked in the case and from what ive seen on tutorials and stuff im pretty damn sure its sata. So...

1) can i get any type of sata drive, or do i need one that is sataII?

2) what would be the best for me from here:

It's all in aussie money, umm i dont mind spending around 200, i was actually thinking the:

3) Im computer savvy buuut im pretty sure ill mess up the copying of old data to the new hd, a techie said hed do it for me for $120...thats alright but is this an easy enough operation for me to do myself?

1)You want a Sata II commonly seen sold now at any online vendor to start with. Sata I can still be used but definitely not preferred!

2)Gee? Send me a 1tb model so I can wrap things up easier then seeing 2 500gb drives here one external! If you really need tons of drive space I means tons! that would be a thought. Otherwise you would see quite a bit of empty drive space never used.

3)Two Windows Explorer windows open side by side for copy+paste, data backup utilities in Windows or freeware, disk imaging software. One totally free backup tool/partition copy is found at http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/system/fwdisktools.html along with a few other programs.
 
I'm glad to see you are replacing the one seen at the second link there. The one question I could ask here however is what make and model board are you running. Going from 80gb upto 1tb is a large step if you are running an older board. Otherwise I don't see any problems simply swapping them out.

Well im using a lenovo A60 8979 bought a year ago
I've ran it through drivesolutions.com and got this:

Saying a sata/300 drive will suite, im assuming that is Sata 3.0 gb/s/Sata II?
Also i dont think ill go for the 1tb, bit overkill lol.

One more thing too, I dont have any space for a second drive(dont really want one either), but if i connect this new bad boy (theres a second sata connection for it on the mobo) and stick it just in the floppy drive space while i copy everything over, will that work?

You wouldn't be seeing any Sata I types drives on any recent laptop. In fact you would have to shop around in order to find one at this later date.

Overkill is simply not ever having a need for the large capacity. If you were downloading things and constantly saving to folders from the web or from a desktop for on the go use then you would want the extra drive space to avoid seeing a much smaller drive filled up too fast.

For not wanting two drives inside a large drive would certainly rule out the need for that another way to look at this as well. Many are now looking at external drives for laptops as well as going back and forth from home to work with two different systems. You may decide to dual or multboot different OSs where the extra would then be a thought for the laptop.

The second connection seen inside is for adding a second HD in where you can easily copy anything you want from the 80gb onto the new drive. First it will need to be partitioned and formatted for use however before you will able to copy files to it. Other then that you wouldn't see anything to hamper that.
