dell is over priced
hp.com used to have v3000z for 430$ and you got a printer.
so buy v3000z with amd turion x2 1gig of ram pc2 5300 667mhz( they
use samsun ram, and it's at 667mhz so I suggest to get this ram rather
than upgrade it later)
so here is how you customize it:
processor:
amd turion tl-52(has twice the cache of tl-50)
1 gig of ram
brightview monitor
FREE dvd burner
b/g lan (wireless) you can choose blue tooth if you plan
to use wireless mouse. or other wireless devices. don't know much
about blue tooth. I don't know if its worth it.
60gig hd is good. I don't know what's the brand of 60gig harddrive they use
I got 40 gigs of fujitsu which is junk. but I heard they put 60gig western digital which are the best hds for laptops among seagate and ibm/hitachi travelstar.
6cell battery will last 2 and a half hours. 12 cell will stick outside. so I would get 6cell battery.
don't forget FREE printer/scanner/copier all in one.
so total will be around 900 including shipping and handling and you will get 80$ rebate on printer. I don't know if you need printer/scanner. I needed one so it was good deal for me.
the reason for choosing amd based v3000 as oposed to v3000t which is intel based, is that v3000z has 6150 nvidia go card. it's much better than intel onboard 950 gma video card. color quality is noticable in 6150.
and it's fast. I am not affiliated with hp. but I bought this v3000z and I have to tell it's the best laptop for the price. very well built. don't get v2000 series
they are old models. and hp just throughs lot's of junk presumably for free but actually you pay more for "webcam" "tv turner"(chich does not work well with underpowered video cards).
there is a guy "miner" on amd.com forums. he wrote a review and he owns one.
don't get 15.4'' screen laps. you will get tired of caring them and they are just too big to be truly mobile laptops. 14.1 wide screen is the best compromise between mobility and everyday use pc.
shit I wrote a lot. just realized it. I hope that helped.
