Hi guys; i like your opinion on this, if i buy a windows xp cd from some one, what should i be aware of?,there 're are a few sellers on craiglist site for 20 to 40 bucks. Thanks.

make sure thats in the original package unopened.

if he used the serial number to register windows, you might not be able to use it again.

Your pc will lock after i think is 30 days if you don't register windows.

you are thinking of activating, not registering. You don't even need to register your ownership of windows but you do need to activate.

You mean that if the seller gives the registration # or code that came with the solftware i won't be able to install it?

Right.... I doubt that anyone is selling new copies for $20 or $40. Watch out, because they could just be selling copies that came with their desktop or laptop, in which case it would be illegal to use, and may not work anyway.

Most colleges can sell you software at dirt cheap prices, so if that's an option, go for it. You could also check eBay for a cheap copy of XP, but again, make sure it's legit and unused.

No, what he's saying is that if the seller is using the code on another machine, you may not be able to activate it, which will cause it to stop working after 30 days.

If it's an OEM copy, and it was installed on someone's computer, but they no longer use it - will it work if registered on a new hard-drive and system, or will that activation notice it's a new machine running, and say "gtfo"?
