buying an external HDD 1st time. advice, what things to mention?

What do you mean by "mention"?

Basically, building your own external hard drive is much cheaper. All you need is an enclosure that supports your drive type, usually 3.5". The enclosures are pretty flimsy until you get above the $30 range, but mine was 20 and it works fine. USB 2.0 or a firewire connection is a must, mine has both.

"Mention", what thing to keep in mind when im buying an ext. hdd?
Can they always be connected to the computer? i mean they dont have any fan so they get warn.

The enclosures I sell will work with either platforms.

And most has their own fans built in.

I have one in stock right now for sale around $29.99 which comes with an external fan if you are interested.

A nice one too!

Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Well, I use mine solely for backup purposes (like my music collection, and a couple important videos), so I can't really say how hot it will get (and it does have a fan). I've only left mine on for about two hours at the most. Just don't go with the cheapest one you can find, I did that for my first one and the internal power cord just ripped off for no reason, it was junk.

Basically, a metal case and a fan will keep it cool. If you want to keep it on all the time, just keep an eye on it. Mine is kept up on my desk, an arm reach away. If I want to turn it on or off, it takes about two seconds - windows detects it immediately.

Problem resolved, Thank you.
