Buying and selling help from you lovely people

Hello, I have 2 queries that I was hoping to get some sort of help on. I am in serious need of a laptop upgrade.

1. I need to get rid of my current laptop, which isn't really saleable due to major defects (broken keyboard, lubriciously slow, sometimes doesn't turn on [!]). I really don't want to just throw it away, I'd hate to waste it! Any ideas on making some sort of profit on it?

2. I need a new shiny one :D I'm going back to uni in October so I can't really afford something expensive, though I know it's gonna cost me a few hundred pounds. Any ideas on how to get the best value? I still want something fairly decent. Basically, would you suggest buying from an electronics store, getting something custom made, or even just ebay?

My major concern is the first one, but any help on this would be fantastic.
Help a British guy out :)

Sorry, I forgot to mention uses!
Yes, I would quite like to play some games on it. But main uses are work, downloading films etc, and internets.

Ah thank you, that has some pretty good looking laptops. Though for my budget I saw thinking no more than £400. I definitely want 3 or 4Gb too.

Any thoughts on getting rid of my old one?
I'll make sure to do some checks in store :)

On the sale issue, chuck it on Ebay as 'spares and repairs' having once backed up all the info you need and nuked the hard drive to sometime next week. Usually any wrecker can get a couple of quid!

With only £400, I don't think you can play game on the laptop.
Anyway, with around £400, you could get core i3 330m with onboard vga

No, single core cpu work really slow. Don't get near that.
With £400, best spec will be those with core i3 330. If you still think they are expensive, try to find last generation pentium dual-core T4400. However core i3 is a lot faster than that.
While for brand, advoid advent/ emachine.
