Buying computer!

I am a teacher at a public school, and we are planning on putting new computers in every classroom. We are having troubles with deciding whether or not to purchase laptops over desktop computers. We need the machines to be reliable, relatively up to date (Windows XP, updated Adobe programs, CD-burners, DVD drives, networking capabilities, Ethernet cards, and of course a secure connection), and practical. What brands would you recommend for desktops/laptops? So far we’ve been looking at Dell, IBM, and Gateway, but we can’t find the best ‘bang for the buck’ as of yet. We would also want to minimize vandalizing, so that’s why we are leaning towards desktops. Laptops easily break with high school students…

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

In terms of secure computers and all, desktops are the easiest to work with. My college has a bunch of dell desktops. Windows XP pro is probably what you want for the computers, as that will you give you the most control over them. At work here we have a bunch of HPs that seem pretty good. Usualy you can get a good deal fromt the companies as an educational instituion and buying a whole bunch at the same time. Desktop are always cheaper to.
