Hello everyone, I have configured a Dell XPS400 PC with their 18 month no interest offer and the 10% off coupon to about $980. Well I wanted to know how are the XPS400s? And would my configuration be enough for gaming and etc. Also should I take the 19" inch analog flat panel or 17" inch digital ?
Processor 2.8ghz
and either
128MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X300 SE HyperMemory
or
256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE TurboCache (which one of those 2 would be better? I will upgrade the video card later but just for this time on which one would be more powerfull)
1GB Ram
160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (Ive heard people say these are noisy, is that true?)
Single Drive: 16x DVD+/-RW with double layer write capability
And either this 19 inch E196FP Analog Flat Panel or this 17 inch Ultrasharp™ 1707FP Digital Flat Panel

Thanks for the help! I cant go over the $980 price tag so this is the most I can get for my money, so answer my question! Thanks!

fuirst of all dont buy dell they ripp u off so much
the parts are cheap and the yare over priced iwas having a xps 600 configured and then i went to my local dealer and he configured me a system for teh sa,e price that would run cirlces around it

Because im not going to apply for any other financings, I have Dell credit so ill buy a Dell, now please back to my questions.

dell have good prices, but they have problems... aparently they have a differend design (non ATX) and have you ever tried to upgrade a cheap dell? they have about 2 or 3 normal PCI slots and thats it, admitadly not all dells only the very cheap <£400 ones, i dont know much about the XPS but certainly make sure its upgradable or else you might find youself buying a whole new system!

i say get your $1000 and build one yourself, you could have a realy good gaming system for that

heres Praetor's $800 gaming machine, i dont know about you but id rather have this than a dell... it has dual core better graphics better hdd basicly better everything and you could upgrade easily in the future

Budget: <800USD
Corsair Value Select PC3200 2x512 CL2.5 ($67.98)
NEC 3550A DVDRW ($39.75)
Xclio GOODPOWER 500W [12V@29A] ($48.00)
RAIDMAX xB ATX-528B Case ($22.50)
Maxtor DiamondMax10 250GB 16MB PATA ($92.00)
Athlon 64 X2 3800+ [Manchester, Socket 939 Lidded OmPGA, 2000MHz, ADA3800DAA5BV] ($297.00)
Sapphire 100130L-BL X800GTO² 256MB ($149.00 after $20.00 MIR)
MSI RD480 Neo2-FI [RX200] ($80.99 after $10.00 MIR)
SUBTOTAL: $797.22

spend the other $200 or so on a monitor...

Once again cant build my own, cant buy anything else but Dell. If I could just please get feedback on XPS400. Thank you.

Ok I guess this forum likes to be unhelpfull by posting useless replies, I didnt ask anyone what to buy , I asked for feedback about a system, now if you dont know anything about it then dont post!

I'd get the 256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE TurboCache. They are both fairly slow cards but I belive this is the faster one.

Not anymore than any other harddrive, assuming its a 7200RPM hard drive.

Its up to you, do you want 19 Inch without Ultrasharp, or 17 Inch with Ultrasharp?

Also, what type of games are you planning to play?

Well, your gaming experience isnt going to be very good with that computer. Your going to have to play on a really low resolution. Also, that means you will be using the LCD's non-native resolution which will cause it to look worse.

I suggest getting a better processor, and deffinetly a better videocard. (which I realize you were planning to upgrade anyway)

Well true, but it will be alot better than my pc from 2000 with 32mb video, and I will upgrade the video card as soon as I get some money. But just for now I want to play at least at the low resolution.

Dells dont suck, and they dont rip you off as much as Alienware.

Pukalo, im guessing the processor is 2.8Ghz P4 correct? If so, its a decent gaming processor, however not "top of the line". The video card is also good for very basic tasks, however it is not a good gaming card. If you want a good gaming card, try to get something with the x700PRO or better, or a 7600GT. the 7300 may be able to play those games on low settings.
