Buying/having a pc built

I am finally gonna get a new pc. I am planning on getting the following:

Questions:

If I use XP and want to use something like window blinds will it then use a lot of memory to look as pretty as Vista? (this is only thing I've got from people as to the difference....???)

I plan to use a raptor for my O/S and then put in 2 RAID 0's for actual storage and manipulation. 2 raids of 3 drives. What is ideal?

I was just reading about RAM and 1066 is still not stable. Is there any point of the quad CPU with an FSB of 1066 with RAM that only runs at 800Hz? This is low because I would buy the 1066 online somewhere else after I get the pc home.

Will it make a big difference to hunt down a raptor with 16mb buffer vs the 8mb that this one shows?

Monitors: I currently have 2 21" CRTs. I use an LCD at work and they have really bad resolution. I use 1920x1440 at home and at work the max I can set is.....I wanna say 1280x960. I noticed when I click on something and drag it around it looks horrible. Everyone raves about the LCDs. Do my eyes suck to are LCDs just convenient? I haven't been able to find one with good resolution. I don't understand the point of a 23" monitor with these low resolution settings....?????
 
Agreed... That's around $30 over most prices... TD even sells them for $260... (OEM).

Do you like out of the USA?

Q1) XP uses less memory than Vista, but Vista has more "features"... as long as you have a good amount of memory, (2GB+) you should be fine anywhere.

Q2) I'd just get a Raptor for the main drive, and a large secondary drive for storage. Fast loading for games, and large secondary storage.

Q3) The FSB is not related with the memory speed. You could run a 1333FSB CPU with DD400 memory. I'd run great!

Q4) I've heard that bigger buffer = better performance, but I've also heard that the bigger buffer is to attact people into buying them... (:rolleyes:) And only a small portion of the buffer is really used.

Q5) I'm guessing you bought a very cheap LCD. Most likely, you bought one with a very high response time. Thus, all the response is slower, and you'll see ghosting.
 
The server case you picked might not work with the motherboard you picked. The case is a EATX case and your motherboard is an ATX. The ETAX is an extended case designed to be used with larger size motherboards.

The case MIGHT be able to work with a ATX board if the case has places for the standoffs for a ATX board.

And that 8600 video card will not be able to play the newest games at a decent resolution or settings. You might consider a 8800gt card instead.

And why in the world are you considering that Intel board? Asus and Gigabyte make much better versions with that same chipset.

thanks for the help. I'll ask about the mb and case combo. I dn't really do games on my pc. I have a PS2 for that and will get a better system some day. I can't justify computer for......games. That's a really expensive video game. :eek:

I plan to get RAIDs because I have done a bunch of rendering of video and i was told that the HDs are the bottle neck there. I've used ASUS before so I'll check to see if that is an option for my cpu. The home movie I made from a 4th of July party took >12 hours to render in Sony Vegas with the effects and fades, etc. I've stayed away from doing this sort of stuff until I am able to get the RAIDs. That was insanely slow.

when I mentioned the LCD it was here at work. Yes the pcs here are Dell junk, but I haven't seen a monitor (LCD) that had good resolution. I will post that as a separate posting though.......
