Buying in Canada or US?

As stated in my previous thread, I'm planning to buy a new laptop. I found some great laptops in US websites (e.g. Sager, chembook) within my budget (less than $1500 USD or $1800 CDN) so I'm thinking of going across the border to take advantage of the low exchange rate. If anyone has experience in buying computers/things across the border please advice me (tips such as warranty and taxes will be great).
Also my requirement for my laptop is
centrino 1.5Ghz and above
512 mb ram
40 Gb HD
at least 64 Mb Vram
not so picky about screen size (preferably 14'' and above)
combo drive
wifi capable
Any laptop recommendations would be great (canadian or US)

Shop around in canada ... often you'll be surprised how much lower the prices are :)

The tax is pretty hefty (14.5%). Plus, where can i find cheap but good laptops in Canada (online sites or stores)?

Did anyone here buy a laptop, or anything, from the states and got it back to Canada?
I need help on how to pay for the laptop I want to get on US websites. Do I need an US issued credit card, and an US address to order?
How much more do you have to pay to get them to ship to Canada (tax and shipping) and will that make the price higher than buying in Canada? If you bought in US, any tips on getting past customs?
Thanks for any tips

I have no background information on this, so I'm guessing you should be able to order a computer from a US site with your credit card and maybe pay a little bit more for the shipping into canada. I'm not sure though, try emailing Dell about this question, they'll help you out for sure.

Yeah well we have 15% here in Ontario :)

in general ... "cheap" and "laptop" dont go together :(
All my computer stuff is only taxed 7% but I ship it in from BC (www.ncix.com). They carry laptops too, but I never looked at buying one so I don't know what the prices will be like
