Buying more RAM

I have a comp with 4gb and Vista OS. I am trying to use it to edit graphics and keep loosing functionality in photoshop. I think I need more memory and/or downgrade to XP. What do you think?

Also in looking at RAM I am considering upgrading to 8gb(dual channel) but I don't know what companies are making good stuff. Can anyone recommend a good 4 gb dual channel memory stick pack(2 per pack)?

Thanks,
Shadrach

Does any one know anything about this product?

@Amazon

I know the memory I need has "240 pins" 4gb(2x2gb) Dual Channel. Don't know what that means. Will this product work?

You should not need over 4 gigs. 4 gigs should be fine. There is something else wrong with your computer you do not need more memory. List the rest of the specs of your computer.

Dual core 2.2 ghz
320 GB HD
4x1 dual channel
Don't know much more than that. Except while running Photoshop the free memory gets very low.... like 20 and below. Not sure what that means but its definitely using all that's there. Plus Upgrading to 8 gb Dual channel means that my memory will be maxed out on this pc and as cheap as memory is I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to do that. I may still have a problem after installing it but at least I will have tried one of the cheapest fixes and improved the computer's specs and performance regardless.

I hope you understand that you need to have a x64 bit OS to use ram above 4gb. Vista 64, or Windows xp pro x64. If you you are running the x32 bit. Then you can't go pass the 4gb. I use Patriots, for my ram.

4x1 dual channel

Is that 4 sticks of 1Gb, or 1 stick of 4Gb...? Dual channel needs pairs of matching RAM to work, therefore the first scenario will be 2 sets of dual channel (if the RAM is identical), whereas the second will not.

I use photoshop CS3 with 2Gbs of RAM OK. What else is running in the background. And as mentioned in previous posts do you have Vista 32 bit or 64 bit? 32 bit only recognises 3.25Gb approx.

Hope that helps, Doug.

it is 64bit vista. I am running

Photoshop
Dreamweaver
FF(multiple tabs - online)
IE(single tab - online)
