Buying new laptop, need input

So, I'm buying a new laptop. I'm looking at spending about $1100 +tax/shipping. I've looked at quite a few systems and I have a pretty good idea what's out there. I'm going to be heading to Korea for a year and I'm looking for a machine to do some moderate gaming and to replace my desktop since I'll be away from home.

I think I like these two options, but I'm curious if there is a better deal out there. Also, the Asus has the newer GP and faster CPU, but the smaller screen. How much of a difference will that make while gaming? Is the bigger screen worth it, or should I just consider purchasing a monitor in the future? I'm used to 21"+ and I don't have much experience with laptops.

let me know what you think at this price point.

That Gateway is a pretty solid piece of equipment.
It also has a tid bit larger resolution, probably not really going to be noticeable though.
I would prolly go with the Gateway personally.

Hi,
whatever machine you're looking at, keep in mind the following, based on my personal experience with notebooks :
1. The cooling MUST NOT  be situated on the bottom of your notebook. It will overheat and give you a lot of trouble
2. Make sure that your graphics card memory is not a shared one
3. Try out the notebook you're interested in in different light contrast
4. Make sure that they have support in your home country. Most repair shops won't touch a notebook they don't officialy support.
5. For the models you are interested in,do some inquiry at forums, e.g. ask if somebody had experience with that particular model you're interested in. Don't believe the official websites :)
6. Always, always try it out at the shop first .
7. No notebook is a replacement for a gaming PC :D

Hope this helps,
Best regards
