Buying new Monitors - advice please

In a couple of weeks I'll be putting together a new system with the help of a friend who really knows his hardware stuff. However he doesn't know monitors so that leaves me needing to choose 2 monitors.

I cannot buy from any online retailers in the U.S. as I am living in South Korea. What I'm looking for is advice on a good model. I looked at several reviews of viewsonics and a couple of other brands I can't remember, but everything seemed positive.

I need two 22" possible 24" if I can afford the bigger size. At least one of the monitors needs to rotate vertically for work with indesign and photoshop. I don't play games, but do watch movies on the computer.

All advice is greatly appreciated.
 
There aren't many monitors that come with bases that rotate to portrait mode. Most don't even have height adjustment until 24". That'll probably have to be the biggest thing affecting your decision unless you want to get one with VESA mounting and buy a third-party base for it.

You'll also want something with a very nice contrast ratio for Photoshop, with as many colors as possible. If you aren't gaming, response time won't be that big of a deal, but get something reasonable for movies. You'll also want to make sure the backlight doesn't bleed too badly (for movies).

Before I suggest anything specific, do you know the brands that'll be available at this place? And if you'll consider a third-party base?
 
I wouldn't worry about the monitor if you're not gunna run anything beyond 1600 x 1200. I've used the same old CRT monitors for the past 5 - 10 years, and I think I've only seen a problem with a monitor once, I'm not sure why. I've never noticed much of a difference myself, only slightly. But if you're really picky, it's up to you.

But if you plan to buy 3D Glasses, make sure you check with the manufacturer first on which monitors work best. I had 3D glasses once, I ended up throwing them out.
 
viewsonic monitors are good in my opinion.
samsung monitors are bad in my opinion.
