Hey guys. I ended up scrapping the Intel idea and i think I'm going to go with AMD this time. I was looking on newegg and i found this setup, tell me what you think and how it would perform playing BF2, HL2, ect.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+

ASUS K8V-X ATX AMD Motherboard

GeIL Value 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory

Right now i only have a PCI bus Radeon 9250 256MB graphics card, but im gonna get a X800 pro after i get the rest of the stuff.

So please tell me what you think guys.

2gb would definately improve performance but if your on a tight budget (which it looks like you are) than 1gb should be fine.

1 gig is more then enough for most aplications
true, unless you want to play Battlefield 2 or Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. Those are two games that get a HUGE performance boost from 2 gigs, though one is fine. :)

Ok well if you dont need a monitor this would be good:
Motherboard: ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813131568
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819103529
RAM: CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 433 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820145594
Video card: XFX Geforce 7800GTX http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814150105
Hard drive: Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB 7200 RPM 16MB SATA http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822144421
Floppy: NEC Black Floppy http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16821152005
DVD burner: Pioneer Black DVR-610B http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16827129169
PSU: PC Power & Cooling 510 SLI http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817703001

Total = $1,815.23, and $200 left for a case which is enough for a sexy Lian-Li or whatever you want.

If you really do need a monitor then downgrade to 1 Gb RAM, a 3500+, and a 7800GT.

how do you kno his budget is $2k? by wat he's got so far im guessing his budget is around $700 b/c he still needs a case , PSU and OS and he didnt choose really high end things.

yes you can use an old case. for the PSU voltage you would want 30 amps on the +12V rail read PSU 101 for more info.
