Buying new RAM

One of the sticks of RAM for a laptop I have failed. I wan't to buy another one, the one in the laptop right now is Samsung 256MB DDR PC2100 CL2.5. Does the "PC2100 CL2.5" mean anything or can I just buy another stick of RAM from any manufacturer that is 256 DDR DIMM? The laptop is a DELL Latitude D600, could I just buy any 2 new DIMMs (like 2x2GB sticks)? Could the laptop support his much? Thanks.

Any DDR stick will work. Brand and speed doesn't matter with a D600.

Thanks for the reply. So all it has to be is DDR, 200-PIN, SO-DIMM? I check the max RAM the laptop can support, it's 2GB, so I will probably just get 2x1GB. I checked the web, and apparently laptop will not run the RAM faster than 266MHz (PC2100), so if I buy a stick that is PC2700 @ 333MHz it will still work right? The computer will just run it at 266MHz?

However, there might be some cases where DDR RAM of different MHz work. But In most of the cases we should go for the DDR RAM of same MHz. If you want to upgrade Laptop RAM then you may required to get some additional application, just check with the provider.
