Buying some RAM

Ok guys.. I need some more RAM for both of my computers. Computer #1 is a home built Windows XP with a MSI n1996 motherboard. Lookin at crucial.com it says my max RAM can only be 2 512mb cards. (you can see the page here http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=N1996 OEM (HP-Argon)...

I was looking at different RAMs on ebay and found this one, which i would buy 2 of. http://cgi.ebay.com/512MB-DDR-PC270...s=66:2|65:15|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:2|294:50

Now will this work fine with my first computer? I'm dumbfounded by all these different RAMs.

As for computer #2, it's a Windows Vista and already has 2 1Gb RAMs installed. Norton 360 says i need more, which after installin Norton my computer has been running slow. Even freezing at points. Again i went to crucial.com and this is what it came up with http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/viewscanbyid.aspx?id=AD291CFA31D926C3. I use this computer much more than Computer #1. I do everything from playing games to word processer to surfin the internet. I usually have many windows open at one time.

Will This work? http://cgi.ebay.com/2GB-2x-1GB-DDR2...s=66:2|65:15|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:1|294:50

Or should i look at a different brand or specs? This computer is a bit more important to me and I'd rather put quality parts in it. Not so much for computer #1, I just want that one to be faster :). Thanks in advance

Your first crucial link doesn't work correctly. On your second computer, Compaq's will be more picky on what memory you can use and some don't like having mixed brands in them. But my recommendation to you would be to get rid of nortons and use Avg, Avira, or Avast free versions. They require a lot less system resources then Norton and won't take as much ram from you.

I see. Didn't know that. So can anyone help me find the RAM i need? I just dont want to end up buying the wrong one and it not be compatible. Also do i need to look up "Compaq" RAM for computer #2?

Personally, I don't know. You would need to contact HP for the information or find it on their website. It is a proprietary brand so they are likely to want you to buy the memory from them.

Thank you for your reply. I'll contact hp about the second computer. How about the first? Any input on that? Here's the specs of the motherboard that crucial gives me
# 184-pin DIMM Banking: 2 (2 banks of 1)
# Chipset: Intel 845E
# Error Detection Support: Non-ECC only
# Graphics Support: AGP 4X
# Max Component Density: 512
# Max Unbuffered DDR SDRAM: 1024MB
# Module Types Supported: Unbuffered only
# Supported DRAM Types: DDR SDRAM only
# USB Support: 2.x Compliant

Heres the specs of the RAM crucial is telling me to buy
# Module Size: 1GB kit (512MBx2)
# Package: 184-pin DIMM
# Feature: DDR PC2700
# Specs: DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 64Meg x 64 •

And Here's the RAM i am lookin to buy http://cgi.ebay.com/512MB-DDR-PC270...s=66:2|65:15|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:2|294:50
Will this work?
