Buying the Sims 3..

I'm going to be buying Sims 3 soon and was just wondering, would I be able to play with everything on high at a resolution of 1280x1024,,, with a good frame rate?

Specs:
DualCore Intel Pentium D 950 (3.4Ghz)
3Gb DDR2 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 7300 GS (512Mb)

And also, do I have to have installed previous versions of the Sims to be able to play this one?

Everything looks fine until you get to the video card. The 7300GS won't let you play it maxed out, hell it might not even let you play it in low settings, with good FPS anyways.

Take a look at the 9600GT or the HD3870 for cheap solutions. Those will let you max it out, or at the very least, play it in high with very good FPS.

If you want to be on the absolute safe side, browse for a GTS250 or even the HD4870.

BTW, www.newegg.com is the best site in the world to buy computer parts :D

I've been looking at a new video card for months now actually.. Gosh but where I live (South Africa), to get the things here will cost exactly double. So if its $400 there, it'll actually cost me $800. Plus if I put in a new GPU, I'll have to upgrade my PSU aswell. Then I'm told about bottlenecking the processor. Ah but I'm going to have to do these upgrades soon.

Which would be better for gaming? The 9600GT or the Gts 250?

Both do the job. It all comes down to what games you would be playing and at what resolution you would play them.

The 9600GT is perfect for The Sims 3

Maybe you could get someone to buy you it from europe, and send it down, a 9600GT here can be had for $90 and sent to SA for $20

Think I'll go with a 9600 GT. Will it be able to play games like GTA, Red Alert and Far Cry just fine? Doesn't have to be maxed out but fairly high detail. Oh yes, my resolution is 1280x1024.
If I do buy a new graphics card, does it matter if it is DDR2 or DDR3. Because the PCI-E slot on my motherboard says PCI-E DDR2, so I'm not completly sure any card would fit in.
And lastly, would a 650W power supply be big enough?
