Buying Windows 7 finally... question

If I get the OEM Version http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116754

Am I getting something different verse the retail version? I never understood the difference and i'm afraid to buy something I can't use!

Anyone really need the Professional or Ultimate versions? For a normal PC user I mean. I game, internet, music, and that's basically it.

No. They [the more expensive versions of windows] offer truly professional features e.g. 35 different languages and XP compatibility mode (ultimate only)

The OEM version is for system builders, the retail is for people upgrading their old system to Win7 :)

Actually, XP Mode works on Win7 Pro.

System builders as in HP or Dell or nerds like us? haha :-)

So then I should purchase the OEM version from newegg using the link I provided?

How do you guys think my PC will run going from XP Pro (32bit) to 7 Home (64bit)? Faster? Slower? Games will be smoother while on DX9? I imagine DX10 will be more of a drain. But hopefully me turning on my 2nd GPU will offset that!

I just moved from XP Pro 32 to W7 64 U, it's much faster and it deals with my 32 bit app's with ease. The only game I play runs fine too.

It's the way it deals with opening/closing app's that I like, it's slick.

I meant the 35 language thing was ultimate-only. It looked like both, didn't it :P?

"Win7 OEM has an unlimited license"

That, too

@ChrisUlrich - Have you seen DX11 yet? ;)

Nope. I have barely seen some DX10 stuff! I can't wait to see APB using DX10. I don't have many DX10 games but I think it's time to invest in a few and enjoy the pretty view. haha

And what does an unlimited license mean?

An unlimited license means you can put your copy of software on as many computers as you like, Whenever you like. With the retail version there are restrictions on this e.g. how many computers you can put it on (usually 3) :)

Actually, the usual number is, yes, 1 for the retail version.
I would love the OEM version of XP and 7, isn't it true that there isn't any activation (bad word goes here)?

Don't have that kind of money right now. When I think whether I want to buy a Windows disc without the (bad word goes here) or build my next rig, I go with build my next rig. Besides, I would only need the XP disc, since the only computer in the house that can run 7 (barely) is my current desktop. The rest run XP.

XP is fine for casual use; however, in this ever-more demanding World, more and more users [particularly gamers] are switching to Win7 because of it's support for newer DirectX software, and far higher RAM limitations :P Mind, XP uses so much less system resources, you can run it with just 128Meg of RAM :o

No wonder Vista was a flop on netbooks :P

But I heard a PC like mine will actually run games and internet BETTER on Windows 7 than XP. Because of my ram not even being utilized in games or in general. Plus I am using a quad core which I read 7 is designed to use much more efficiently than XP.
