Buying Windows 7

Hello!
As some of you might have seen in the General Computer forum, my GF's laptop is having issues (BSODs) so I was thinking in upgrading her OS to Win7. She is currently under Vista (which I think is the problem), but the thing is I don't know what kind of Win7 I should get.

Would OEM licence work? And if her laptop dies would I be able to re-use the key on another computer?

:)

Yeah OEM will work. And when it dies, yes, you could use it on another computer.

Huh? No it won't. OEM is only good for the machine you install it on. You would need to buy the retail version in order to transfer the license between machines.

I jst want to get this straight. The difference between the upgrade and the OEM of Win7 is wether you want to keep your folders or start from fresh?

What type licence am I looking for if I want to use it on another computer (one at a time of course).

Legally you need retail if you want to transfer the license.

I wouldn't bother with upgrade installations. It's better to back up your data and then just reformat and reinstall fresh. You'll get a better installation that way.

Are you 100% sure that your bsod problems are not hardware related? Upgrading to w7 may be a waste of money otherwise, I would format and reinstall Vista for now personally.

Agreed, or even a trial version of Windows 8.

Window 7 is the best operating system among all other OS. It has a wide range of attractive functions and features. It is also very user friendly. There are several website available that provide best quality Window 7 OS in affordable price.

There is a thread, I've checked with John, it's not hardware. I'm guessing Vista is bugging (which doesn't surprise me). Vista is pure crap so upgrading to Win7 seems like a good idea.

Win8 will be like Vista and Win2000, a transition OS. If you look at Microsoft releases, it's always one on two that's having tons of problems.

I was talking about a test OS that he can use that isn't VIsta that is free. Plus Win 8 is almost exact under the hood to Win 7 so its a good test. Also your claim that Win 8 is the next Vista is entirely unfounded.

There's always Linux Mint as a free alternative to windows.

No thanks, Linux isn't made for everyday use.

Totally agree, it's based on what I think it will be!

Firstly as many members on this forum would agree, your linux comment is also baseless.

Secondly, so you're informing a member of this forum based on your hunch??? :o And since Win2000 was one of the best versions of Windows (may be you're thinkin of ME?) and considering it came out just after you turned 9 years old i doubt you know what you're talking about.

You can try either Window 8 or Windows 7 before spending a cent.

Lol please, of course anyone everyone can learn to use Linux but Win is made for everyday use. Same difference as a DSLR and a basic compact P&S.

ANd secondly who am I informing besides me? I kinda made the thread :). And don't give me that age argument, I've used many Win OS including win95, win98, win2000, winxp, win Vista and Win7.

I am currently using Win7 on my desktop and it's the most stable since WinXP. Like I said, my opinion on Win8 is based on a hunch based on observation. We'll see who's right in the end.
