Hi

a friend of mine has recently split with her boyfriend, he has changed the admin password on the computer she recently bought spitefully and i can see a long process faffing around with the recovery disk to change it.

is there any way i can bypass the password or change it by putting the hard drive in another machine running xp and change it manually??

any help would be much appreciated

thanks

I'm not sure if it's allowed to provide password cracking methods on the forum.
If someone with "power" :) decides it's fine to help you I'll try to do so.
But till then you'll have to wait...

if her user account has admin rights then she already has privledges to change the admin password with built in features inwindows to do so. They put that feature in there just in case someone forgot their admin password.

What version of windows is it?

I'm pretty sure you can reset it, I have done it before, you just have to find the right tools.

hmm you really are an elite hacker....

Like I said, if you are already an admin this is how you do it in windows XP. And before anyone cries about this, its a known feature (not exploit) and there is an MS kbase article on it. However, searching MS kbase documents sucks, so I will just post on how to do this.

click:

Start > right click my computer > click on manage > select Local Users and groups > Select users > Right click the admin account and choose the option "set password"

Now you can enter whatever password you want.

Try booting in safe mode. A lot of times you can bypass the password and then go and change it to what you want.
