C.O.H DX Question

Hello all.

Right well, I walked into Game today and asked if they had Company of Heroes. So they give me the game but on it I notice that it states DX10 Edition. As I don't run Vista nor have a DX10 card (as only the latest cards actually support this version of DX don't they?) I assured them there was a DX9 version. They were dead certain I am wrong so I just walked away and didn't purchase anything. I get home, look on their website and they have two versions, DX10 edition and one that doesn't state what DX edition is it. So I'm guessing that is in fact the DX9 version right? And that there is actually a DX9 version of that game?

Yes there is a DX9 version. As far as I know, it was the 1.7 (or was it 1.5 or 1.6....doesn't matter) patch that added some DX10stuff to the game if you have the hardware & vista. I don't know if the DX10 edition is different than a prepatched game. I'll see what I can find out about it.

Thanks for looking, and for the response Cromewell. I hate it how the guy in the store was so forward in saying that I was wrong in thinking there was a Direct X 9 version of the game and that he was dead right in saying it was only a DX 10 game. What ever happened to the customer always being right? :p

Are you sure that the DX10 version isn't backwards compatible with DX9 hardware? I cant see them producing two difference copies of the game.

Well there are two different versions for sale on the Game website. One of them states it's for DX10 where as the other has no line stating what DX it's recommended for (which I assume is the older DX9 version). The DX9 version of the game was released almost a year or so a go where as the new DX10 edition prepatched / was released not too long a go.

The DX10 edition contains the DX10 upgrade patch (1.7), it can run on XP/DX9 the DX10 features just wont be available.

So I'll run into absolutely no problems purchasing the DX10 edition and playing that on DX9 using XP?

Ah that's sweet then. I'll go and purchase the DX10 version this Friday :). Thanks for the help Cromewell.

Then all you should need is the 1.7 or later patch. You might have to enable stuff in the options, I don't know if all the extra stuff is added automatically.

I think most of the DX10 additions were minor things, more stuff blowing around on the terrain, grass all over and what not.

Right, I'm going to buy the DX10 edition of the game this monday (in 2 days). Can you 100% assure me that it'll work on Windows XP with my graphics card and that the only issue with the DX10 edition is that the features for DX10 won't work yet the game will flawlessly?

I'm one of these people that has to tripple check something before doing it :).
