I Helped my friend reinstalled his windows today, and after that the cable internet is not working anymore.

The cable modem is set up in a way that any computer connects to it by Ethernet will work.

I tried 3 laptops and everyone that connects to it was able to go online. One of the laptop was just reformatted using its recovery partition and it was able to connect to the internet right away.

The os installed was XP pro and when i goto the network connections, the one that is named 19 or 1 something, anyway it is 4 digit. and was connected but internet still does not work.

The xp pro was purchased many years ago, is there something that i need to do in order to get the internet working again?

Help needed fast.

Thanks

When you go to the network connections folder, does it list an ethernet connection, either disabled or unplugged? If nothing is there, you most likely need to install the drivers for it.

I don't think there was one. How can i enable it? what driver do i need? where can i get the driver? if it is on the xp disc how do i accesses it?

thanks

Is it a prebuilt PC or a custom built? If it is a prebuilt, go to the website of the builder (Dell, HP, Compaq, whatever), and go to Products/Support/Downloads and find the model of computer that he has, and download the most recent chipset drivers for it.

If it is a custom built, go the website of the motherboard manufacturer (ASUS, ECS, GIGABYTE, whatever) and download the most recent chipset drivers for it.

If you have the model number (Such as Dell Dimension ####) or whatever, I could help you out if you can't find them. Hope it works out.

I am going over my friends how to find out later today, I tried my model and was able to find it on the sony site, i think i will be able to find his.

It is the driver for the mobo chipset right? because when i looked for my model there was a driver for mobo chipset.

Thanks PohTayToez
