Cable Modem problem

I was at work today and my brother called me and said he spilled some water on the cable modem. i told him to unplug it and i would look at it when i got home. everything seemed dry so i plugged it in to see if it would boot up. now when i plug the modem in, some lights come on and just stay on, those lights are:Receive, Online, PC Activity, and Standby.

I have a Motorola SB5100 Cable modem. any help would be appreciated, and thank you in advance.

The best thing to do when electronics get wet is to unplug them immediately, take them apart (if possible - to increase airflow), sop up what you can w/ a rag/towel, and let them dry completely before powering them back on. Even then, it may be too late.

When you plug the modem in w/ the cable attached, it should go through a series of different lights blinking - first send, then receive (while the ready light is blinking), then those back and forth, and then the ready light should be lit up only. If yours is just staying solid, I think it "be fux0r3d."

I would just call the cable company and tell them my modem quit working. If they ask if something was spilled on it, I would tell them "not to my knowledge" - unless it is blatantly obvious. They will probably have someone come replace it in 3-5 business days.

Hi,
If you find that the link LED light keeps blinking, but the US or U2 LEDs periodically turn on and then off, the signal level between your cable modem and your cable overhaul provider is probably fine. However, this could mean that your cable service does not have your cable modem’s details correctly entered into their database. Simply call your cable service provider to update your cable modem details.
Thanks
