Hi all,

i have a linksys BEFW1154 router, in which the mauin cable runs in to my oc. Another pc in our house is connected to this wirelessley, but the internet connection is not stable.

We bought a cable, but when we connect it from the back of the pc to the router, it does not recognise it.

Do i need to unlock ports on the router? if so, how?

If this is not the case, how do i do it?

Many thanks

Mark

are you sure the network connector on the pc yu are trying to connect it enabled
Yes, you can check that by going into NETWORK CONNECTIONS.

Also, you might want to check that your cable is not faulty and doesnt have a break in it anywhere, the easiest way to do that is to buy another cable and see if that one works

You shouldnt need to "open ports" on a router, thats only for external data coming in on anythign other than HTTP protocols. If you plugged it into the right ethernet port at the back it should work no problem

Make sure you're not using a crossover cable. They used to be red to distinguish them, but for some reason that has seemed to change. The way to tell is by comparing the wires in the connectors. Hold them up together. The wires should be in the same order. If the green and the red are reversed it's a crossover cable.
